Nearsightedness
Also called myopia, nearsightedness happens because your eye may be longer than a normal eye, and your cornea may be steeper. When light passes through your cornea and lens, it focuses in front of your retina (the back of your eye), so distant images appear blurry.
Farsightedness
Farsightedness and hyperopia mean your eye may be shorter than a normal eye, and your cornea may be flatter. When light passes through your cornea and lens, it focuses behind your retina, so near images appear blurry.
Astigmatism
This condition is the steepening of the cornea or lens, which causes images at all distances to appear blurry. Astigmatism can occur along with nearsightedness and farsightedness.
